"But did they get as many as they could have? If he took his foot a little off the brake and went with Lomror, and tried to target a boundary an over himself, we will never know," Moody added.

The evolving nature of the game

Tom Moody emphasizes that the introduction of impact players has changed the dynamics of the game, rendering the role of slow strike rate innings builders less relevant.

As the IPL moves towards a faster and more aggressive style of cricket, Moody argues that a strike rate of 150+ should be the benchmark for batsmen, given the comfort of depth in the batting lineup.

The league has witnessed a surge in high-scoring encounters, with teams consistently breaching the 200-run mark, reflecting the need for a more dynamic and aggressive approach.

“In my view, particularly with the impact player, the game has really moved on from that style of cricket. That's why we are seeing so many totals go to 200+. There is no such role. We all need to be going here at 150+ without a doubt because we have the comfort of depth,” concluded Moody.
