Haiti showcased determination during the match, with Melchie Dumornay's shot testing China's goalkeeper Zhu Yu. However, they were unable to capitalize on their player advantage to secure their first World Cup point at the finals.
In added time at the end of the second half, referee Marta Huerta de Aza initially awarded a penalty to Haiti after what appeared to be a clear foul by Wu Chengshu on Roseline Eloissaint.
However, after a review using the video assistant referee, the decision was overturned, leading to Haiti's frustration. They had another claim for a penalty when Dumornay was blocked by Li Mengwen, but the referee again did not award the decision in their favor.
China, runners-up in the 1999 World Cup, had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Denmark in their opening match. Now, they will aim to defeat England on 1st August to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stage. If both China and Denmark win their next matches, along with England, all three teams will have six points, and goal difference will determine the two teams that progress to the next round.
