Birmingham's co-owner and NFL icon Tom Brady has reportedly been in continuous communication with Rooney in recent weeks regarding the managerial position.

Brady believes that the former Manchester United legend has the potential to attract top-tier players to St Andrew's and ultimately guide the club back to the Premier League.

Rooney's recent departure from DC United, which he mutually agreed upon on Saturday, followed the club's failure to secure a spot in the MLS playoffs.

Reflecting on his exit, the former striker stated, "It's the right time. I've done everything I can to get this club into the playoffs. It's not a single thing that's happened. It's about timing. What lies ahead, I don't know. I've seen a lot of reports in the media. I'm going back with nothing lined up."

As the speculation surrounding Wayne Rooney's potential appointment as Birmingham City's new manager continues, the footballing world eagerly awaits official confirmation from the club.
