The North East side has now affirmed his immediate suspension from the game after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) found him guilty.

As a result of this ban, Tonali will be sidelined for the remainder of the current season, and he will also be ineligible for Euro 2024 should Italy qualify.

An official statement has been issued by the club

The club issued a statement that outlined the details of the ban: "Sandro Tonali has been banned from competitive football for ten months, effective from Friday, 27th October 2023, following illegal betting charges by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). FIGC's sanction includes an overall 18-month ban, with eight months commuted as the player participates in a therapeutic plan and educational program in Italy, consisting of 16 commitments."

Furthermore, the statement clarified that FIFA has endorsed FIGC's sanction, making it applicable worldwide. This means that Sandro Tonali will be eligible to return to competitive football from Tuesday, 27th August 2024.

Tonali's ban is undoubtedly a significant blow for both the player and Newcastle United, as the talented midfielder will be forced to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. It remains to be seen how this suspension will impact the Magpies' squad and the player's future in the sport.
