Manchester United completed the acquisition of Mason Mount, a 24-year-old England midfielder, from Premier League rivals Chelsea on a deal until June 2028, with an option for a further year, on Wednesday. Mason Mount has played 279 games for Chelsea, contributing to 53 goals and 58 assist. Chelsea's Player of the Year in both the 2020–21 and 2021/22 seasons was the Champions League champion. He has 36 England caps and was instrumental in his country's route to the European Championship final in 2021.

It's never easy to leave your childhood team, but Mason Mount noted that Manchester United will present a new challenge. This squad is one of the strongest I've ever been a part of, and I'm eager to be a part of its push to win major titles, having competed against them.

"Everyone can see that the club has made significant progress under Erik ten Hag." "After meeting with the manager and discussing his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the upcoming seasons and am prepared for the hard work that is expected here. Having won major trophies myself, I know how amazing it feels, and I will give everything I've got to win at Manchester United

According to Manchester United's football director, John Murtough, Mason has excellent technical skills and will be a great addition to the team.

It is wonderful for us that he is taking the next step in his career here at Old Trafford, as we have always admired his talent.

Mason Mount is a world-class player - Erik Ten Hag

As a result of working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff, we all believe that his style of play and attributes will only improve.

Mason himself is a world-class player, but his game intelligence and tactical awareness also enable him to improve the players around him. As we push to drive up our performance levels next season and beyond, we were particularly impressed by his desire to join United, and his thirst for further success."
