Bruno Fernandes has been named the new Manchester United captain for 2023/24.

Fernandes has replaced Harry Maguire in the role after Maguire fell down the pecking order under Erik Ten Hag - making just eight Premier League starts last season.

Bruno Fernandes has been chosen as the new club captain of Manchester United, according to a club release.

Ten Hag has confirmed that the Portuguese midfielder will lead United permanently after wearing the armband on numerous occasions already.

In just 185 games for the team since signing in 2020, Fernandes has scored 64 goals and provided 54 assists.

As United aims for success in the 2023–24 season and beyond, the two-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, who also serves as the squad's captain, will continue to set the highest standards for the team.

The international player from Portugal, who held the armband for most of the 2022–23 season while Maguire was unpopular, was an easy option for the position. In his debut game as the club's official captain, Fernandes will lead the team against Arsenal on July 22 in New Jersey.
