Raya, 27, has been a key player at Brentford since he arrived in 2019, making over 160 appearances and helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021. His outstanding exploits have earned him two appearances for Spain, with his debut scheduled for 2022. He also flew to Qatar with Spain's World Cup team.

Raya's contract with Brentford was extended by two years before his transfer to Arsenal. With the arrival of Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Bundesliga side Freiburg in May, ninth-placed premier league team Brentford has already identified a replacement for Raya.
Arsenal's sports director, Edu, acknowledged his delight at the signing of Raya and praised him as a top-tier goalkeeper. He stated that the Spaniard's signing will bring skill and depth to their squad as they strive to compete at the top level in all tournaments.
Raya will wear the number 22 jersey for Arsenal.
Arsenal sees Raya as a significant addition to their club as they try to boost their roster ahead of their next encounter against Crystal Palace. Brentford, meanwhile, will be preparing for their forthcoming encounter against Fulham.
