Fantasy Notes - Trent Rockets (TRT-M) vs Northern Superchargers (NOS-M), Men's Hundred 2023

Points to consider

  • Northern Superchargers have a right-handed dominant batting unit and for this reason, Trent Rockets might look to bring in the experienced left-arm spinner Samit Patel in place of off-spinner Matthew Carter.
  • In addition, the top 3 batters do not have a great matchup against this bowling type. This is advantageous for both Imad Wasim and if Samit Patel plays, he will become a good differential pick as he is also the highest wicket-taker at Nottingham in T20s.
  • Tom Banton vs Left Arm Pace in T20s since 2022: 11 Outs, 18.1 Avg, 94 SR; In addition to his left arm spin matchup, he faces a difficult matchup against left-arm pace and the Trent Rockets have two of them in Daniel Sams and Luke Wood. This gives us some logical backing to take a risk against him in risky combinations as he is currently selected in over 90% of the teams.
  • Unlike the Superchargers, the Rockets use their left and right-handed batters effectively by looking to maintain an RHB-LHB pair throughout the match. The Rockets batter also have a good record against left-arm pace bowling type and the Superchargers' key bowlers (Parnell and Topley) are left-arm pacers.
  • As a left-hander, Malan will look to target the spinners but in the process of attacking, he has lost his wicket against leg spinners in the past. An experienced spinner in Adil Rashid would look to do the same including bowling his googlies to Malan.
  • If Malan gets out early, Colin Munro's fantasy potential goes up as he has an excellent record against left-arm pace, left-arm spin, and leg spin. Due to a lack of opportunities, his selection has fallen to 23%, but as we mentioned earlier, the Rockets will promote him to maintain an RHB-LHB pair. This will give him more time to score big and if this happens, he could be a game-changer as a differential pick in your team.
  • You can back Sam Cook as a differential pick in your team in either inning as he will not only bowl at the death, which is great if Rocket bowls first and it gets tougher for batting in the second inning, and if the Rockets post a good total on board, he can pick up a few wickets in the second innings as well. Given the matchups established earlier, the Rockets batters have a great potential to dominate in this match.
  • Adam Hose at Trent Bridge: 6 Inns, 203 Runs, 51 Average, 189 SR, 2 50s; Adam Hose in T20 Blast 2023: 15 Inns, 397 Runs, 40 Average, 146 Average, 2 50s; He has a good record against spin and has good numbers at this venue as well. He is selected in only 6.7% of the teams and he can be a good differential pick if the top order does not fire.
