Fantasy Notes - South Africa (SA) vs Australia (AUS), 3rd T20I

POINTS TO CONSIDER

  • According to reports, South Africa are said to be ready to rotate the wicketkeeping duties between Donovan Ferreira, Matthew Breetzke, and Tristan Stubbs. With Stubbs playing in the first T20I, we might see one of the other two take the gloves in the 2nd and 3rd T20I.
  • Josh Inglis bats higher in the order compared to whichever South African wicketkeeper plays, which makes him almost a default pick in this section.
  • Tanveer Sangha's 4-fer was a good example of why spinners are important picks in the second innings. The big total set up by Australia put high pressure on the South African batters leading them to attack and lose their wickets. To be fair to Sangha, his 3rd and 4th wickets were classic leg spinner's wickets of stumping and bowled on a wrong'un.
  • Travis Head in T20s since 2021: Inns - 44, Avg/SR - 13/97, 50s - 0; He has struggled against change of pace and wrist spin in this format. The kind of attacking intent he showed in his three balls in the 3 balls of the 1st T20I - makes him a good punt to try because if he is able to connect a couple of balls, he will easily find himself among the top points scorers in the game.
  • If Australia bats first, two of their 23% selected bowlers in Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis will become important picks because they will bowl in the death overs. They have had a lot of success in the BBL bowling at this phase.
  • If South Africa bowls second, Tabraiz Shamsi (30%) will be expected to play a similar role as that of wrist spinner Tanveer Sangha, which makes a good differential picks due to the scoreboard pressure in the second innings. That is particularly true if South Africa manages to post a big total - for which they have a great potential with the likes of Markram and Brevis at 4/5.
