Ireland vs India, 3rd T20I - Fantasy Notes

Ireland - Team Notes

Points to consider

  • Ireland vs Leg Spin & Off Spin in T20Is since 2022: Inns - 33, Outs - 85, Avg - 15.8, SR - 120; Almost all Irish batters struggle against either of the two spin bowling types - Harry Tector (vs Leg Spin) and Lorcan Tucker, Curtis Campher (vs Off-Spin) are the exceptions for having done relatively well against one of the two bowling types.
  • From the First T20I preview: “Irish captain Paul Stirling struggles against both these bowling types (particularly leg spin) massively but that does not make him an instant drop largely because he can cause most of his damage in the powerplay against pace. That said, we will prefer to keep him as an option for the grand leagues as he will be facing two quality bowlers in Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh in this match.”
  • From the Second T20I Preview: “Lorcan Tucker (40%) made a very poor shot selection in just his second ball by trying to scoop Jasprit Bumrah, which ended with him getting caught instead. He has a poor record at this ground and against India (3 Inns only). He came to the limelight on the international scene when he was promoted in the T20 World Cup where he score a 74 against Australia. Try him in GLs because we will prefer Sanju Samson in this match for most combinations especially if India bats first.”
  • Mark Adair (35%) will become an important pick if Ireland bowls first as he will bowl in the death overs. He also has a great differential potential currently, in addition to his bowling, he is also a decent lower-order batter who can contribute some runs.
  • Paul Stirling (26.9%) and Harry Tector (20.6%) failed in the first two games but they are batters who are capable of a big inning. With the series already lost, a batter like Stirling can go bang from ball one and if it clicks, he can be a huge differentiator in most leagues.

India - Team Notes

Points to consider

  • Finger spin is not a very favourable bowling type at this venue but Ireland are not great players of this bowling type. Washington Sundar (15%) can be tried as a differential if India is bowling second as there will be greater pressure on the Irish batters to chase down the target.
  • All other Indian bowlers are important - so it will be a big risk to go drop any of them.
  • Tilak Varma failed in the first two T20Is but he looked in good touch prior to that and his recent selection in the Asia Cup will be a good boost for him to perform well.
