Fantasy Notes - Zimbabwe (ZIM) vs Sri Lanka (SL)
Points to consider
- Base Team picks: Wanindu Hasaranga, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Dhananjaya de Silva, Richard Ngarava, Maheesh Theekshana
- Zimbabwe visited Sri Lanka for a 3-match ODI series which ended with a 2-1 win for the hosts but the visitors were no pushovers, they put up a good fight in the first two ODIs. Sean Williams was the top run scorer in that series and Jeffrey Vandersay (leg spinner) was the highest wicket-taker.
- Charith Asalanka has been in good form in the Qualifiers batting the failure in the last match against the Netherlands. He was also the 2nd highest run scorer in the last series between the two sides. Back him as a differential pick as he is selected in only 23% of the teams, given that Zimbabwe are a quality team and can trouble the top order of Sri Lanka.
- Ryan Burl usually turns up for Zimbabwe in the big occasions and he can play an important role in the lower middle order in the case of a collapse against the world-class spin duo of Hasaranga and Theekshana. Burl is selected in only 27% of the teams and his leg spin can also be used if there is a lot of assistance of spinners on the used pitch.
- Lahiru Kumara was injured in the last match and Shanaka had to bowl a couple of overs to compensate for the remaining overs. If Kumara continues to remain out, we are likely to see the team either bring back Kasun Rajitha or unleash Matheesha Pathirana against the home side. We will consider backing whoever plays especially if Sri Lanka are bowling first.
