Pitch Report: There was a good amount of live grass on the pitch, which can be helpful for fast bowlers. There was movement with the new ball and we saw good bounce as well - this venue has seen more bounce compared to the other Indian grounds.

The pitch might be difficult for batters but at the same time, the ball will also come nicely onto the bat, and get better for batters as the day progresses.

Points to Consider

  • Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of this clash against New Zealand and it is a certainty that India will make a change - we might see Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami come into the XI, in place of Shardul Thakur, which provides them with a better balance in the absence of Hardik.
  • Among the potential top-six batters, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are the most vulnerable against the double left-arm spin threat, while KL Rahul (132 Avg) and Shreyas Iyer (107 Avg) are the best counters to this threat).
  • There is a possibility for early wickets in seam-friendly conditions and New Zealand has a strong pace attack which can threaten India's top order. With a virtually undroppable top 3, we will have to make tough decisions, especially in risky leagues.
  • Rohit Sharma loves facing express pace and averages over 400 against the short ball since the 2019 World Cup and with the high altitude of the ground, the ball will travel quite easily in the air. On the other hand, Shubman Gill has had issues against express pace and he will be facing Matt Henry in the powerplay - refer to the above matchup. Rotate these players in your Grand League teams with this logic in mind.

Points to Consider

  • Tom Latham is one of the better SENA batters in the subcontinent, where he averages over 45, and at the same time, he has an excellent record against India in One Day internationals. Currently, he is selected in just 25.5% of the teams and we will consider him as our top differential pick in this match.
  • India has a couple of threats but mainly left-arm orthodox spin (Santner & Ravindra) and left-arm pace (Boult) in particular, as the top 6 batting unit is comprised of 6 right-handers.
  • Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson offer the express pace threat and they can cause problems for the Indian batters, by rushing them, at a venue that has seen good bounce among the other World Cup venues.
  • It will not be easy to pick both Santner and Ravindra in our XI, especially at Dharamsala which favours seamers. That said, Mitchell Santner is a quality bowler, whose tight lengths can make it difficult for the opposition batters - and he has picked up 11 wickets in 4 matches so far in the tournament. On the other hand, Ravindra has not been effective with the ball and batting at 3, he might be vulnerable against India's new ball pacers.
