Fantasy Notes - England (ENG) vs Ireland (IRE), 1st ODI

POINTS TO CONSIDER

  • ECB confirmed that Joe Root has been included in the squad for the first ODI against Ireland in place of Harry Brook. This was after Root's request to play and with the approval, he will be playing at his homeground in Leeds where he is in the top 3 runs scorers in ODIs of alltime.
  • Harry Tector and George Dockrell are the only batters to average over 40 in ODIs since Janary 2023 among the Ireland batters as both average 56. This. alongwith the fact that they will be playing against a second string England squad, makes us consider them as very good differential options with a selection in just 26% and 8% of the teams, respectively.
  • Curtis Campher in Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023: Inns - 5, Runs - 193, Avg - 39, 100s - 1; With Ireland, he is likely to bowl a couple of overs and his allround value batting in the middle order makes him a safe fantasy option.
  • England captain Zak Crawley is coming into this game on the back of a 158 for Kent in the County Championship.
  • With rain forecast around Leeds, pacers will get good assistance while the batters might be vulnerable. If Ireland bowls first, the Irish pacers cannot be entirely ignored especially the likes of Josh Little, who have the ability to cause big trouble for England's top order.
  • Craig Young who is selected in just 17% of the teams has been in good form recently. In his last 9 white ball matches, he has picked up 22 wickets including in the recent ODI series against India where he picked up 2 and 1 wickets. Consider backing him as a differential given the expected pace friendly conditions due to the overcast weather.
