Points to Consider

  • Like the other matches in Sri Lanka in this tournament, there is a threat of rain in this match at Colombo as well. 
  • All the Indian batters in the top 5 have good numbers in ODIs against Sri Lanka. Among them, Virat Kohli's exceptional record stands out - both against Sri Lanka and at Colombo as well. This makes him the best C/VC option.
  • Charith Asalanka is the highest run scorer in ODIs at Colombo since 2021 and he is also a batter who is in form. If Sri Lanka bats first and if there is moisture on the surface, Mohammed Siraj can become a big threat for their top order. In that case, Asalanka will play an important role as he becomes a good differential pick at just 16.8%.
  • Dasun Shanaka is an interesting pick as he has a reputation for bringing his "A" game against India particularly in both limited over formats. He has also taken the responsibility of bowling more in this tournament and his slower ball variations and cutters might be valuable as the Indian batters will consider him as a bowler they can target, which can also potentially lead to wickets. It will be with the bat where he is most dangerous as a finisher - earlier this year, he also scored a century against India in Guwahati.
  • Dunith Wellalage's left arm spin and batting skills will become a good differential factor if the sun is out like it was against Bangladesh. India's top 4 are all right handers and his potential to pick up wickets cannot be ruled out. Although if the weather remains rainy, you can rely more on the pacers to make a bigger impact.
  •  Kasun Rajitha (16%) was on fire against Bangladesh under lights and that is another factor that we will keep in mind in this match. If Sri Lanka bowls first, Matheesha Pathirana might become a better and default pick due to his death over potential of picking up multiple wickets with his deceiving slingy action.
