unveiling their provisional 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, set to be hosted in India.

In a series of bold decisions, England's initial World Cup squad reflects a calculated strategy. Among the notable inclusions, the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes headlines the list.

This significant announcement comes on the heels of Stokes' reversal of his ODI retirement, positioning him to rejoin the action in the imminent four-match ODI series against New Zealand.

However, the squad reveals notable omissions as well. Young batting sensation Harry Brook, despite his burgeoning potential, finds himself excluded from the provisional lineup. Additionally, star fast bowler Jofra Archer, renowned for his pace and skill, has been earmarked solely as a travelling reserve in England's World Cup endeavours.

The same 15 players slated to face New Zealand in the upcoming ODI series would also constitute the provisional World Cup squad

The confirmation arrived from England selector Luke Wright, who affirmed that the same 15 players slated to face New Zealand in the upcoming ODI series would also constitute the provisional World Cup squad. This cohesive approach underscores England's commitment to cohesion and consistency in their preparation for the marquee event.

“This is the squad we are going to put forward,” Wright said on Wednesday.

“It’s incredibly hard on some players that are going to miss out. It shows the strength and depth we have in English Cricket and there are other names who are knocking on the door as well.

With the balance of the squad, and with only fifteen that you can name it’s incredibly tough.”

“The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again."

England's provisional squad for the World Cup: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

While the provisional squad takes shape, it's essential to note that teams are not obligated to finalize their submissions to the ICC until September 5th. This flexible window allows further adjustments until September 28th, ensuring that squads are meticulously tailored ahead of the World Cup spectacle.

England's highly anticipated World Cup journey commences on October 5th, marked by a riveting clash against New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Prior to the commencement of the grand tournament, both sides will engage in a high-stakes four-match ODI series, setting the stage for an electrifying prelude to the cricketing extravaganza that awaits.
