Dimuth Karunaratne played a blistering knock and scored a century

Dimuth Karunaratne proved to be Ireland's main tormentor, scoring a rapid century at the top of the order. His run-a-ball knock of 103 set the stage for Sri Lanka's dominant position.

Sadeera Samarawickrama also contributed significantly with 82 runs, forming a crucial partnership of 168 runs for the third wicket with Karunaratne. Ireland's Mark Adair and Barry McCarthy led a spirited fightback, taking four and three wickets respectively to dismiss Sri Lanka for 325.

Chasing the imposing target, Ireland stumbled early on and found themselves at 58-4. However, Harry Tector's determined innings of 33 helped the team rebuild. Unfortunately, Wanindu Hasaranga's impressive bowling display, claiming 5-79, brought an end to Tector's resistance. Despite the valiant efforts of Curtis Campher, who scored 39, Ireland's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup were ultimately dashed.

Ireland will conclude their Group B campaign on Tuesday with a match against the United Arab Emirates, but their World Cup aspirations have come to a disappointing end.
