England's innings began with a blazing performance by Jonny Bairstow. After a few subdued outings in recent matches, Bairstow roared back to form with a scintillating 73 off 41 balls.
He smacked six sixes and raced to 47 off just 22 balls after five overs. Bairstow's aggressive batting gave England a strong start, reminiscent of his earlier heroics at Trent Bridge. However, his dismissal marked the beginning of England's batting struggles against the Kiwi spinners.

Apart from Bairstow, England's batting lineup faced difficulties against the Kiwi spinners. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner, in particular, made life challenging for the English batters.
Will Jacks, Harry Brook, Dawid Malan, and Liam Livingstone all struggled to find their rhythm, falling short of impactful contributions. Santner finished with figures of 3 for 30, while the combined efforts of New Zealand's spin trio accounted for 6 wickets for just 68 runs in 10 overs.
The match served as crucial preparation for New Zealand ahead of the upcoming ODI series, marking the beginning of the more significant part of their tour.
