Sheikh Zayed Stadium – Venue Notes

  • Average First Innings Score in T10 matches since 2018: 112
  • Bat First vs Bowl First in T10 matches since 2018: Win batting first – 40, Win chasing – 53
  • Wicket distribution in the last 13 T10 matches: RAP – 70, LAP – 34, SLO – 12, OS – 5, WS – 20
  • The ground dimensions at this venue are comparatively bigger than the rest of the UAE venues.
  • The straight boundaries are relatively short at 65m while the square boundaries and midwicket boundary dimensions range from 75m to 80m.
  • For this reason, bowlers will get a lot of opportunities to remain in the game as batters look to score runs quickly and a lot of catches can be expected close to the boundaries.
  • As the season progresses and the pitch gets used frequently, expect spin to play some role. That said, pacers who can use their variations will play the dominant role in this format and at this venue.

Northern Warriors – Fantasy Notes

  • Kennar Lewis is inconsistent but he is also a good hitter of the ball. Although his struggle against left arm spin could be used by the Gladiators to introduce Shamsi and Sultan Ahmed against him.
  • Adam Lyth will complete the LHB-RHB opening duo for the Warriors. He was in excellent form in The Hundred tournament and if he manages to get through the initial overs, he can score big. Although he has struggled against left-arm pace early on and Luke Wood has also dismissed him 5 times in the past.
  • Top Batter – Rovman Powell brings in a ton of experience having played a lot of T10 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 213. He is likely to bat at Number 3 or 4. The higher the order he bats, the more his fantasy potential increases.
  • Top Bowler – Junaid Siddique will be eager to show his skills in the shortest format after putting up a stunning display in the T20 World Cup for the UAE. His lengths and angles allowed him to pick up wickets at the death and as a local player, his spot is guaranteed in the team.

Deccan Gladiators – Fantasy Notes

  • Two possible changes are likely to happen if Jason Roy and Luke Wood have returned from Australia to join the squad. They will replace Will Smeed and Tom Helm in the XI respectively.
  • It will be interesting to see who will make way once Andre Russell is back in the XI. Towards the end of last season, we saw him open the innings with Kohler Cadmore. If that is the case, Smeed/Roy are likely to sit out. Otherwise, one of Zahoor Khan or Sultan Ahmed.
  • Top batters – The Gladiators will rely on the runs from both Nicholas Pooran and Tom Kohler-Cadmore at the top of the order, both of whom have performed exceptionally in this format. Cadmore has generally done well when batting first while Pooran has been equally good in both innings.
  • Top bowlers – Tom Helm bowled both his overs in the last 4 overs of the innings which are essentially the death overs and that is a phase with opportunities for easy wickets. If Luke Wood replaces him in the XI, he is an equally good choice.
  • Sultan Ahmed bowled 2 overs in the last match and he has a potential positive matchup against both Kennar Lewis and Rovman Powell. While matchups can be nullified in this format, it can also lead to wickets if the batters decide to take him on.

Fantasy XI

WK: Nicholas Pooran

BAT: Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Rovman Powell, Adam Lyth, Usman Khan

AR: Odean Smith, Andre Russell

BOWL: Junaid Siddique, Tom Helm, Tabraiz Shamsi, Wayne Parnell

C/VC: Andre Russell, Tom Kohler-Cadmore

Common C/VC: Nicholas Pooran

Differentials: Rayad Emrit, Jason Roy, David Wiese

C/VC Differentials: Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Adam Lyth, Tom Helm

  • WK – The standout pick is Nicholas Pooran while Kennar Lewis is a good hitter but inconsistent. Both are keepers for their respective teams and bat at the top of the order, which is always a bonus.
  • BAT – Rovman Powell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore as base team picks. As for Cadmore, we have already mentioned that he has a better record batting first. We have picked the attacking southpaw Adam Lyth as we expect some quick runs from him at the top.
  • AR – If Andre Russell plays, we will definitely pick him in our teams. For now, Odean Smith and David Wiese should provide all-around coverage. Liam Dawson could be a good pick when bowling second.
  • BOWL – Multiple options available; Tom Helm, Wayne Parnell, and Junaid Siddique – all of whom have bowled at the death. It was a toss-up between Little and Shamsi, we have taken a risk to go with Shamsi and we would be more confident in him as a pick if he bowled in the second innings.

Note: There will not be any Fantasy XI updates if there is a quick turnaround time between the toss and the deadline. In that case, use our tips to make your final teams.
