New Zealand – Fantasy Notes

  • Devon Conway and Kane Williamson are excellent options as anchors in this format compared to T20s. Both players can be considered to be reliable c/vc options in this match.
  • Finn Allen is a player you cannot rely on especially as he has struggled against left-arm pace in the past and with multiple alternatives available, he is a better pick in Grand leagues.
  • Tom Latham has consistently performed well against India and can be considered to be a reliable batter in ODIs. He will also provide points as a wicketkeeper.
  • If Michael Bracewell plays, he is likely to do so in place of Glenn Phillips. Although this scenario is less likely, the team had rotated between the two in the previous ODI series against Australia.
  • In the absence of Bracewell, New Zealand has only four main bowlers and in that case, James Neesham will play the role of the fifth bowler. He has a knack for picking up wickets with his medium pace and his destructive hitting in the final overs could also fetch you plenty of points.
  • Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson/Adam Milne, and Matt Henry are all exciting pace options to consider especially if New Zealand is bowling first.

India – Fantasy Notes

  • Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill return as openers in the ODI series. The experience of Dhawan should make him a reliable option for most fantasy managers.
  • Shreyas Iyer’s struggle against the short ball is well-known but you can pick him in this longer format where he will have the time to adjust and play out deliveries. He has also been one of the better players in ODIs since 2019 and the last time he was in New Zealand, he scored 50+ scores in all 3 matches.
  • Sanju Samson is more likely to be benched in the ODI series as well with Rishabh Pant keeping wickets and Deepak Hooda providing an all-round value while batting at Number 6.
  • Arshdeep Singh is likely to be handed his debut in ODI and make his first appearance for India. Given his sucess in the recent T20 series, you can bank on him for points in this format as well.
  • His partner in the powerplay will be Deepak Chahar who has a potential to strike early on. He also provides an extra batting option in the lower order just like Shardul Thakur.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal can also be considered in your teams as he is a wrist spinner especially if India is bowling second. Although his form has been mixed, he will create opportunities for wickets if batters look to take him down.
