Post Toss

  • We have gone with Georgia Redmayne over Lizelle Lee in the WK section for this team.
  • The only decision we had to make was to choose one between Danielle Wyatt and Laura Kimmince. We have decided to take a risk and go with Laura Kimmmince.
  • Cons for Wyatt – Jensen matchup in the powerplay; Pros for Wyatt – Opens the batting and experienced in the big matches.
  • Cons for Kimmince – Bats low at number 6, does not bowl; Pros for Kimmince – decent venue and head-to-head record,
  • Courtney Sippel is our differential pick in the bowling section. Do check out our pre-toss summary at the end of this article.
  • For vice-captaincy, Jonassen is a safer pick as she is bowling in the second innings.
  • Good luck!

Karen Rolton Oval – Venue Notes

  • Average First Innings Score in WBBL since 2018: 150
  • Bat First vs Bowl First in WBBL matches since 2020: Win batting first – 67%, Win chasing – 33%
  • Wicket distribution by bowl type in WBBL 2022: RAP – 32, LAP – 0, SLO – 4, OS – 13, WS – 16
  • “It has a great grass cover and provides consistent bounce and carry. There’s enough in the pitch to help out the fast bowlers and spinners and batters get great value for shots. The outfield is world-class.” according to the ground manager Trent Kelly, on Pitch Perfect.
  • That matches with the numbers in this WBBL season as both off-spinners and wrist spinners have had considerable success bowling here.
  • Although the batting has not been high scoring at this venue this season and the average first innings score in WBBL 2022 is just 129.
  • Teams that win the toss will look to bat first as those teams batting first have had relatively higher success recently.

Brisbane Heat – Fantasy Notes

  • Update: According to the official Brisbane Heat website, Georgia Redmayne has been cleared to play after returning from her hamstring injury. She is set to feature in the Eliminator match against the Hobart Hurricanes. She will open the batting for the Heat.
  • The Heat has an 11-4 advantage in encounters against the Hurricanes in the WBBL.
  • Grace Harris is a differential c/vc choice as she has a remarkable record against the Hurricanes and also a decent record at this venue. Despite not bowling these days, her batting should still be able to cover a lot of points.
  • Georgia Voll is an interesting choice to consider for this match because of her numbers at the venue. For smaller leagues, it will come down to picking one of Voll, Wyatt, or Laura Kimmince in most contests.
  • Nicola Hancock is a must-have pick for your teams – she has excellent numbers against the Hurricanes and at the venue. We have also considered her for the c/vc in our teams.
  • If Courtney Sippel plays in this match, consider picking her as a differential in your teams.
  • Bowling options: Left arm spin – Jess Jonassen, Wrist spin – Amelia Kerr Pace – Jess Kerr, Nicola Hancock, Courtney Sippel, Lucy Hamilton, Off-Spin – Charli Knott

Hobart Hurricanes – Fantasy Notes

  • If Georgia Redmayne (Heat) does not play, Lizelle Lee becomes the only sensible pick in the WK despite her poor numbers against the Brisbane Heat.
  • Mignon du Preez has been in good touch this season and she has excellent numbers against the Heat. Although she has been troubled against away spin, which will be the key matchup. Consider her as a differential c/vc option in this match.
  • Elyse Villani has been inconsistent and in poor form this season and she has also struggled against wrist spin in the past. You can still consider picking her when she bats second.
  • Even though we are not sure why Heather Graham did not bowl in the last match, we cannot leave her out of our teams in smaller leagues at least. Although you can avoid making her the c/vc in this match especially if the Hurricanes are chasing.
  • Molly Strano is a default pick and since she has done well at this venue and in head-to-head matches, making her a differential c/vc should not be out of the question.
  • Bowling options: Pace – Heather Graham, Hayley Jensen, Nicola Carey, Off spin – Ruth Johnston, Molly Strano Wrist spin – Amy Smith, Maisy Gibson

Pre Toss

  • Players marked in bold above are our base team picks. Rotate the rest of the spots in GLs and Mini GLs. A short breakdown:
  • WK – With the availability of Redmayne, dropping Lizelle Lee becomes an option as she has struggled against spin in the past and also her poor record against the Heat. Although in limited sample size, she has done better batting 2nd at the venue and has also got off to good starts in recent matches. Redmayne also has a slightly better record batting 2nd. If you want to pick one between the two, it might be a good idea to consider the batter who is chasing.
  • BAT – Grace Harris and Mignon Du Preez – c/vc options and must-haves; That leaves us to pick one between Wyatt, Laura Kimminice, Villani, and Voll.
    • Villani – poor recent form, the matchup threat against A Kerr. Can pick on experience in the playoffs.
    • Wyatt – in decent touch recently; safest pick. Like most batters, has a better record chasing in her T20 career.
    • Voll – has done well at this venue but Hurricanes bowlers have troubled her in the past. She is likely to get pushed down to Number 4 or 5 with the return of Redmayne.
    • Kimmince – Bats at Number 6; she is also not bowling. A top-order collapse will bring her into the game as a differential.
  • AR – Order: A Kerr > J Jonassen > Heather Graham > N Carey; all four are default pick. However, if there is a need to rotate a player in your combinations, it should be Carey. Ruth Johnston and Charli Knott are part-time bowlers, who have the potential to make an impact with the ball when you least expect it – GL options.
  • BOWL – Molly Strano and Nicola Hancock are must-have picks; Courtney Sippel is our favourite player to take the third spot if she plays. Otherwise, it is likely to be Jess Kerr.
