AR: Wanindu Hasaranga, Mitchell Santner

BOWL: Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Lahiru Kumara

  • Risk on Theekshana with Kumara, as Sri Lanka is bowling 1st and they could play him out.
  • Lack of SL middle order – so vice Hasaranga (safer)

New Zealand – Fantasy Notes

  • Devon Conway emerges as a default captaincy option for this match – he is in great form, has no matchup issues, and will also open the batting for New Zealand.
  • If New Zealand bowls first, pick all three quicks in your team – Boult, Southee, and Ferguson. They are also good options for vice-captaincy.
  • Lockie Ferguson in particular is a good differential option from the New Zealand pacers as he is likely to also be used in the middle overs and the batters in the Sri Lankan middle order struggle against high pace.
  • Consider picking Ish Sodhi in your teams especially if he bowls in the second innings.

Sri Lanka – Fantasy Notes

  • Binura Fernando has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup after suffering an injury in the previous match. He is likely to be replaced in the XI by either Pramod Madushan (if fit) or Kasun Rajitha, who was added to the squad earlier as a replacement for Dushmanta Chameera.
  • As we keep mentioning in every preview that involves Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis struggles against left-arm pace in the powerplay. While playing out the bowler is a possibility, the risk still remains especially against Trent Boult, who is arguably at his best in the powerplay. Leave Mendis out in the bigger leagues especially if he bats first.
  • While Hasaranga looked out of song in the previous match against Australia, we also have to remember that it was on a Perth pitch that produces high bounce which does not suit his bowling. This venue is much more compatible or him.. Consider making him your c/vc particularly if he bowls in the second innings.
