Ahead of their first match in T20I World Cup 2022, Bangladesh batting coach, Jamie Siddons, told reporters a winning game plan for his team to come victorious in the upcoming World Cup. He wants his top order batsmen to step up and score runs in the range of 170-180 consistently. Saying that their bowling line up is their strength, they will be often in good position to win more games rather than lose.

“I think there was one score of 200 in the New Zealand (tri-series), so we’re not concerned over making 200. If we can keep making 160-170, with our bowling attack, we will win more games than we lose. I don’t think we’re going to need 200 here. You won’t need 200 tomorrow or at the World Cup very often. 180 or 170 are good scores. If we make 170, we are very happy. Our bowling attack will keep them to 170. Have a look at Big Bash average scores, not 200. Very very very rare,” he said.

Bangladesh team had the optional training session on Sunday which many of their key players preferred not to opt as they had a long flight a day before. In that training session, their pace bowlers were seen batting under the guidance of their batting coach keeping in mind that Bangladesh has substandard performance in death overs with the lowest run-rate in the last five overs this year.

“We have a separate net for target bowling and things like that; bowling yorkers and slowers and working on their skills, bit like the batsmen when they play underarms and throwdowns. They had a long flight yesterday, so didn’t want to work them too hard.

“Well, they had a good bat. Lately, they (lower-order batsmen) haven’t had to bat, with the top-order doing well up till the 10th over. We got to keep working on them because at some point we are going to need them.”

The Tigers will play two unofficial warm-up games , the one against Afghanistan on 17 October before they start their campaign on 24 October. Bangladesh team management has been experimenting with their team combination since the Asia Cup and they continued doing so until the recently concluded tri-nation series. The result of which is they did last minute changes to their squad removing Sabbir Rahman and Saifuddin and added Soumya and Shoriful Islam.

“We had seventeen players and we had to pick fifteen and we made the decision we thought was best for the team. Soumya hasn’t made fifties or sixties but so didn’t Sabbir, so we’re hoping that once these next two practice matches and the World Cup come along, everyone is in good form.

“We will see next two games and we will get a lot closer to the final batting order. Having a team which hasn’t won a lot in T20s, we’re still looking for the best mix and the best batting spots, so we’re getting very close. In our minds we think we’re right but we need someone to step up and make a big score.

“We’ve brought in some new players that haven’t been in the team for a while as you probably know. So they are finding that it will take a little bit of time to get up to speed with international cricket again but today is an example of how they are going and they are going really well. Expect to see some scores from the top-order very soon,” he noted.
