Korean teams have typically excelled at League of Legends from the moment they entered the esports world because of their discipline, in-depth understanding of the game, and unmatched mechanical proficiency. Despite the fact that they often go to the knockout round, no LCK teams have been ousted from the group for the past four years.
Gen.G and RNG secured the remaining two slots in the knockout stage after the group stage’s final round ended yesterday, on October 17. Since 2018, every LCK team has advanced past the play-in stage and group stage and into the knockout stage, thanks to Gen.success G’s in the group stage.
Samsung Ozone and Gen. G were the only two Korean teams in Worlds history to not advance to the knockout round. In 2013, despite having a 5-3 record, Samsung Ozone was unable to advance from the group, which was dominated by the European teams Fnatic and Gambit Gaming. In season eight, Gen.G struggled to defeat the threats that RNG and Cloud9 once posed. With a 1-5 record, the team returned home dejected.
All four LCK teams—Gen.G, T1, DWG KIA, and DRX—appear to be the greatest contenders for the Summoner’s Cup at this time, and with their sights set on the trophy, they won’t let anything stand in their way of repeating as World Champions.
On October 20, Worlds 2022 resumes with the quarterfinals.
