India – Fantasy Notes

  • Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the remaining ODIs due to back stiffness and Washington Sundar has replaced him in the squad.
  • Risky inclusion – Despite going wicketless, Avesh Khan looked threatening in parts in the 1st ODI and is the best bet to pick up wickets at this venue as a hit-the-deck bowler over someone like Siraj. Pick him as a differential if he bowls in the first innings.
  • The Indian top 4 is not expected to fail as it did in the last match. If they perform as expected, batters like Samson and Iyer will get limited opportunities to score as many points as they did previously.
  • Sanju Samson keeping the wickets and his ability to accelerate quickly at any phase makes him a relatively safer pick despite batting at Number 6.
  • Shahbaz Ahmed if he plays, will bat at No.7 and is an excellent differential in this match. He can fetch you points with both the bat and the ball.

South Africa– Fantasy Notes

  • Risky drop – Since 2018, Aiden Markram averages 20 against India and has been dismissed 16 times to spin, averaging just 18 in 24 innings. This is a concern in a format we’d expect our pick to accumulate runs and have the ability to play out their weakness.
  • Risky inclusion – Temba Bavuma averages 40 against India in ODIs but his poor form in the recent limited-overs series meant his selection has dropped to 12%. A longer format should suit his style of play and allow him the time to phase his innings gradually.
  • Pick Janneman Malan in your teams! He is an ideal pick in this format of the game, where he takes minimal risks with his batting approach and is excellent at protecting his wicket against all bowling types. Since 2018, he averages over 50 in ODIs and also against spin.
  • If Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi continue to play in this match, you cannot go wrong in picking both of them together. They have the ability to pick up wickets at any phase but especially in the death overs.
  • If there is a decision to be made between Keshav Maharaj and Wayne Parnell, follow the rule of preferring a pacer in the first inning and a spinner in the second.
