Indian middle order star batsman SuryaKumar Yadav got multiple records on his name during the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. His spectacular inning of 50* helped him to surpass Shikhar Dhawan to become the highest run getter for India in T20Is in a calendar year.
Suryakumar needed eight runs to go past Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 689 before the first T20I, he crossed it with two consecutive sixes off Nortje on his first three balls only. He is having a superb run in T20I this year with 732 runs to his name with strike rate of 180 and an average more than 40. This also helped him to currently stand on second position in ICC T20I Batsmen rankings.
The Mumbaikar Playing in his 21st match of 2022, is already the highest scorer in the calendar year and will have his eye to take his tally to 1000 runs in two games with South Africa and World cup which is to be played in October.
Despite losing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early in the chase, Yadav was at top of his game and did not show any mercy on the opposition and played his natural game with Indian team in pressure. With the two sixes early in the innings, Yadav also went past Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to record the most sixes in any calendar year in T20Is. Rizwan held the record for his 42 sixes in 2021 with Martin Guptill also smashing 41 sixes in 2021.
