Providence Stadium – Venue Notes

  • Average First Innings Score in the CPL since 2018: 160

In a day match, this pitch is a tricky place to bat on compared to the evening matches where teams scored plenty of runs. As the match progresses, the wicket gets slower where the spinners and pacers with variations at the death overs will play an important role.

Four out of six matches so far this season at the venue have been won by the team batting 1st. Despite that, teams who win the toss will look to bowl first and put pressure on the batting team, restricting them to a low score in a day match.

Guyana Amazon Warriors – Fantasy Notes

  • Guyana spinners will play a key role once again against a Royals team with 4 RHB in their top 6. Consider Chandrapul Hemraj as another candidate to bowl his left-arm spin in this match.
  • 3 out of the 4 most selected players in the BAT section are from Guyana but each batter also has struggled against specific bowling types – Hemraj (off-spin, wrist-spin), Hope (left-arm spin, off-spin) and Hetmyer (off-spin, wrist-spin).
  • GL Tip – drop all 3 players or rotate one player in different teams. Focus on the all-rounders of Guyana who are good lower-order hitters as well.
  • Despite scoring a half-century in the last match, Shakib Al Hasan has struggled against off-spin bowling and will face Mujeeb and Cornwall in this match, which is not an ideal matchup for him. He could still make up for any batting failure with the ball as he faces a team with many RHBs and more importantly, some of his overs were also kept for the final phase of the innings in the last match.
  • Romario Shepherd is the 2nd highest wicket-taker at this venue since 2018 and has a great record against Barbados. That said, if he does not get early wickets, there is still a chance that his overs might get cut as Guyana also have plenty of spin options to use in a day match.
  • Odean Smith has been bowling at the death and could also contribute with his power-hitting in the final overs. Pick him especially if he bowls in the first innings.

Barbados Royals – Fantasy Notes

  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman remains the key bowler for the Royals against a Guyana team with 3 left-handers in their top 5. Since it is also a day game, there will be assistance for spinners which makes him a good c/vc option for this match.
  • Keep Kyle Mayers in your team but consider him for the armband only when he bats in the 2nd innings as he has been struggling batting first in these conditions. He is not worth dropping as he could contribute points with the ball as well.
  • Obed McCoy and Jason Holder are top fantasy options when they bowl in the 1st innings.
  • While Rahkeem Cornwall struggles against the ball turning away from him, he must be considered as an option in your teams as he will bowl his off-spin in this match against the left-handers of Guyana.
  • Azam Khan is considered to be a good player of spin but he struggles against left-arm orthodox bowling. Guyana has 3 of them – Shakib, Motie and Hemraj. He is still a good differential pick.
  • Najibullah Zadran could be promoted in this match to counter the left-arm spin bowling type of Guyana. He struggles against off-spin but still remains a worthy differential pick as an attacking batter.
