Toney hits back at Gabriel's tweet.

Ivan Toney didn’t hold himself back while responding to Gabriel’s tweet, describing it as cringey.

Brentford’s 26 year old talisman Ivan Toney has responded to Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes’ tweet in an aggressive fashion. Gabriel put up a tweet saying “Nice kick about with the boys” after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League.

During his first press conference for the English team after getting a maiden call up earlier this month, Toney didn’t hold himself back while hitting back at the tweet. He went on to describe the tweet as ‘cringey’.

“I think once was funny, the second time was a bit cringey! Nah, listen, I bit my tongue. I wanted to reply, I wanted to nibble, but fair play they played very well. They are a different Arsenal side from what we played before. They are going very well so fair play to them. They are going well.”

All this started after Toney put up a similar tweet when Brentford defeated Arsenal in the opening fixture last season. Even Mikel Arteta had used the tweet to inspire his players in the reverse fixture which Arsenal managed to win. Alexandre Lacazette had replied back with the same line after that win.

Toney also mentioned the strikers who have inspired him through the years. Harry Kane and Didier Drogba were the ones who got the mention from Ivan Toney.

“I like a lot of strikers. I do like Harry Kane – when he gets a chance, nine times out of ten it’s in the back of the net,” Toney replied.

“I like the likes of Didier Drogba, I like to play his game sometimes, [he] put his body around, good in the air, in behind, finishing.

“But I kind of watch all strikers and just try and take tips from all strikers that have been involved in the game at the highest level and bring it into my game.”

Toney is in line to get his England debut in this round of Nations League fixtures.
