Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Lakmal have been included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the T20 World Cup, subject to fitness tests. Both of them missed the Asia cup due to injury. Their comeback, if they pass fitness test, will bolster the Srilankan bowling line up which is high on confidence after brilliant performances in Asia Cup.
Most of the players from the Asia Cup feature in the T20 World Cup squad. The ones to miss out on both the main squad and reserve group are Matheesha Pathirana, who made his debut at the Asia Cup, Nuwan Thushara and Asitha Fernando.
Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, Dinesh Chandimal, Binura Fernando and Nuwanidu Fernando are named as players on reserves and only Bandara and Jayawickrama will travel with the squad to Australia.
The impressive left-arm quick bowler Dilshan Madushanka retains his place in the squad after a great outing in the UAE. He picked 6 wickets in 6 matches with a very fine economy of 7.75. He also picked the prize scalp of Virat Kohli against India. Dhananjaya de Silva and Jeffrey Vandersay retain their places after coming in for the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka are placed along with Namibia, Netherlands and the UAE in Group A in the first round of the T20 World Cup. They will take on Namibia on October 16 to begin their T20 World cup campaign.
