Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings have appointed Trevor Bayliss as the new head coach for the IPL season 2023. The 59-year-old has replaced Anil Kumble for the role.

Kumble was appointed as the head coach and director of operations by the Punjab based IPL franchise in 2020. Kings had failed to make it into the IPL playoffs for the three consecutive times. Under the coaching of former Indian team captain, Punjab Kings won only 19 matches and lost 23 matches over the three seasons even they were having star studded eleven at their disposal. This is the second worst win-loss ratio for any team in IPL since 2020, only behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.

With the coming of Trevor Bayliss, he brings with himself a rich experience of coaching having won the 2019 World Cup with England, 2 IPL titles win with KKR in seasons 2012 and 2014 and a BBL title with the Sydney Sixers. Most recently, the Australian coach headed the Sunrisers Hyderabad dressing room for the 2020 and 2021 season.

Commenting on his new role, Trevor Bayliss said, “ I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware.”
