The second round of Champions League group stage fixtures staged a Bayern Munich vs Barcelona classic, with Bayern continuing their dominance over the Catalan club. Tottenham Hotspur suffered a shock defeat against Sporting Lisbon.

The highly anticipated Champions League fixture between Barcelona and Bayern Munich didn’t disappoint the football faithful as the two footballing giants squared off to stage another UCL classic. This game had much more to it, with some intriguing inside battles like Nagelsmann vs Xavi and Musiala vs Pedri, and the return of Robert Lewandowski to the Allianz Arena, which made it a bit more compelling.

Goals from French defender Lucas Hernandez and German winger Leroy Sané secured a 2-0 win for the Bavarians.

An end to end first half finished at 0-0. Bayern came all guns blazing into the second half, scoring 2 goals in the space of five minutes. The big chances missed by Barça’s striker Lewandowski haunted them for the entire game.

German wonderkid Jamal Musiala shone under the lights, with the likes of Upamecano, Sané, and Mazraoui also helping towards Bayern’s cause.

Speaking of the other matches, Sporting stunned Spurs in the early kickoff thanks to stoppage time heroics. Marcus Edwards, a recent graduate of the Spurs academy, proved out to be a menace for the Spurs’ defense.

Liverpool sealed a win over Ajax in the game’s dying moments thanks to an 89th-minute winner by central defender Joel Matip. Greek fullback Konstantinos Tsimikas was the standout player for the Reds. Mohammed Salah also returned to scoring ways.
