Not one to hold back his thoughts, Arsenal great Ian Wright launched into x-rated remarks over why Liverpool are important to the Premier League.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool are necessary for the Premier League and to challenge Manchester City’s outright dominance at the top of the table for the past half-decade. City have won four of the previous five league titles but were challenged closely by Liverpool for two of those – both of which, the Reds lost by a handful of points.
Launching into his x-rated remarks, Wright commented that had it not been for Liverpool, Manchester City’s title wins would’ve been processions instead. Furthermore, the ex-Arsenal man also believes that despite failing to win either of their first two games this season, Liverpool are still strong enough mentally to take the title race down to the wire.
“If it wasn’t for Liverpool this f*****g league would be s**t. Simply because (Manchester City) beat them on two occasions by one point and then they hammered them out of sight. If it wasn’t for Liverpool it would be a procession,” he said.
“(The Reds) are just a victim of the fact that they’ve been so good, there’s no way they’re mentally tired. You watch the Community Shield game, they absolutely hammered Man City in that game they were all over them. So it’s just a case of it’s been a bad start for them and they’re going to need to catch up quick.”
Manchester City themselves dropped points on Sunday night against Newcastle United in a 3-3 draw. The Citizens were trailing the game 3-1 at one point before they rallied back to level the scores and rescue a point. As a result, Liverpool have the chance to cut into City’s lead when they face Manchester United on Monday night, a team they beat both home and away last season with an aggregate score of 9-0.
