Daniel Lawrence

Daily fantasy tips and predictions for Trent Rockets vs London Spirit in The Men’s Hundred match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham

Understanding where a match’s hotspots are likely to be is the best way to prepare for it. Here, ‘hotspot’ refer to key junctures in a game.

Samit Patel’s significance in this game

One of those hotspots in this case is Samit Patel versus London Spirit’s RHB heavy top order. Let’s start with Adam Rossington and Daniel Bell-Drummond, the opening pair of the Spirit. Both have had their moments in the tournament, but they aren’t high-quality opening batters, weren’t in great form coming into the tournament, and struggle against slow left-arm orthodox spin.

These two have a mixed record against left-arm pace too, which means that while they will not be as troubled as they would be by SLAO, it will be difficult to put the pressure back on Trent Rockets’ lead pacer Luke Wood.

Prediction(s) Alert:

  • Team to make the highest first 25 balls score – Trent Rockets
  • Highest Opening partnership – Trent Rockets

Fantasy Alert: Pick Samit Patel. He is only in about 40% of teams and can contribute with the bat as well.

The Spirit will be without Glenn Maxwell for this game. It is unclear whether Jos Inglis or Ben McDermott will replace him. Both have compelling arguments, so there is no point in wasting time here. Inglis is a better opening option, while McDermott provides the raw power that’s required outside the powerplay.

Importantly, if Inglis is brought in, he, too, has a poor record against SLAO; McDermott, on the other hand, struggles against left-arm pace in the powerplay.

Bring Daniel Lawrence in

Daniel Lawrence has had a slow start to the tournament, but he has been in good form recently and is the Spirit’s best bet today against the home team’s bowling unit. The 25-year-old is a future all-format superstar with outstanding records against left-arm spin and both types of powerplay pace. Lewis Gregory’s best bet against the England international is wrist spin.

The opposition has three left-handers in its top five, and in the absence of Glenn Maxwell, Morgan may also use Lawrence’s off-spin, improving his fantasy potential further.

Fantasy Alert: Select Dan Lawrence. He is only in 13% of teams and therefore has the potential to be a significant differential today.

If the scenario plays out as expected, it will be up to Eoin Morgan, Kieron Pollard, Jordan Thompson, and Liam Dawson in the middle and lower middle order to help the visitors score big, making the first three in particular top fantasy options. Dawson’s fantasy potential is lower today than usual due to Trent Rockets having three LHB options in its top five.

Fantasy Alert: Pick Morgan and Thompson in the majority of your combinations, and consider Pollard in others. Thompson’s all-round value makes him one of the best differential captaincy options available today.

Nathan Ellis has gone wicketless in three consecutive games, but his 70% ownership says a lot about how good he has been of late, as well as a little about the lack of specialist bowling options in play in the game.

Important fantasy notes for Trent Rockets batting innings

  • The openers are in top form.
  • Malan and Munro team up to form a potent SLA shield for Hales.
  • Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s fantasy value has been reduced by the addition of Tom Moores, as the left-hander is now keeping wickets.
  • There has been no confirmation of Rashid Khan’s availability, but given that the Asia Cup begins on the 27th, we will be surprised if he is available for today’s game.
  • Pick Daniel Sams. His all-round value is too good to miss out on.

Our ultimate cricket guides contain a wealth of information about the conditions at Trent Bridge, so you can look there for more information. Today’s game will be played on a used deck, but the size of the boundaries here should allow for plenty of sixes.

Fantasy Alert: Select both Tabraiz Shamsi and Mason Crane over specialist pacers in some of your combinations. Will come in handy if the deck plays tricks.
