The VCT Champions is going to be one of the biggest esports tournaments this year. The tournament will feature a massive prize pool and will see esports fans from all around the world coming together in the magnificent city of Istanbul. Each team participating in the upcoming VALORANT Champions event has been assigned to a group, and some previous opponents will square off once more, according to Riot Games, the tournament’s organizer. A group stage in the GSL style will precede an eight-team double elimination tournament in the format. Based on each team’s finishes at regional Challengers and international competitions, seeds were assigned.
The winning teams from each group will face the runner-up teams who advanced from other random groups when the group stage is through. This playoff structure is comparable to earlier Masters competitions.
LOUD and OpTic, two of the top teams in the world and previous VCT Masters Reykjavik finalists, were put in Group B with ZETA DIVISION and Boom Esports. To play against one another for a chance to advance to the playoff stage, OpTic and LOUD must win their opening matches.
On August 31, the first matches will take place, with Paper Rex vs. EDG serving as the opener. The first games of Group A will then come to a close with Leviatán taking against Team Liquid.
The defending Masters winners FunPlus Phoenix will meet KRÜ Esports in their debut round after being assigned to Group C. The opening games in the group will be concluded with a match between XSET and XERXIA, representing North America. Given that this pool includes DRX, FURIA, Fnatic, and 100 Thieves, Group D might be an acronym for “death.” Each team will face a formidable opponent, making this group arguably the hardest to predict.
VALORANT Champions will start on August 31 and end on September 19. Stay tuned with us for all the
