Manchester Originals – Team Notes

Batting Options: 8

LHB Options: Only 1 LHB in the top 7

  • Opportunity Alert – Brings Samit Patel into the game right away.

Main Bowling Options: 5

Support Bowling Options: 3 (Paul Walter, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Madsen)

Spin trio: Covered, if Tom Hartley plays (Off-spin, wristspin, SLAO all in)

In Form: Wayne Madsen, Paul Walter, Andre Russell, Matt Parkinson

Out of Form: Laurie Evans

Express Pace: Available if Richard Gleeson plays

Slow ball variations: Available

Elite New ball value: On good days, both Sean Abbott and Fred Klaassen can set the batting team back, but there is no elite new ball value.

Big Name(s) on the bench: Ashton Turner

Tristan Stubbs will definitely get a couple more chances before Manchester Originals start thinking about Turner again.

Potential Changes: Tom Hartley/Fred Klaassen out, Richard Gleeson in (if fit)

There is no word on Richard Gleeson’s fitness. If the right-arm quick is ready, he will almost certainly replace Hartley or Klaassen in the starting lineup. Given that the opposition has two left-handers in its top four, Hartley is the most likely candidate.

The 34-year-absence old’s is one of the main reasons why the Originals have yet to open their account in the tournament. Gleeson is not only their fastest bowler, but he also brings top-tier hit-the-deck value to the XI.

Trent Rockers – Team Notes

Batting Options: 8

LHB Options: 2 LHB in the top 4

  • Opportunity Alert – Buttler may be hesitant to use or even start Tom Hartley again. Matt Parkinson would be more effective as well if the Rockets’ left-handed batters are removed earlier.

Main Bowling Options: 5

Support Bowling Options: 2 (Lewis Gregory, Joe Root)

Spin trio: Covered, if Joe Root plays (Off-spin, wristspin, SLAO all in)

In Form: Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Luke Wood

Out of Form: None

Express Pace: Not available

Slow ball variations: Available

Elite New ball value: There is above-average new ball value, with Luke Wood capable of making a real impact in the powerplay, but no elite new ball value.

Big Name(s) on the bench: Matt Carter

Luke Fletcher is likely to be preferred over Matt Carter again, as the opposition has six right-handers in its top seven, and captains will struggle to get overs from an off-spinner on what is generally a good batting deck.

Potential Changes: (If Joe Root has left to join the England Test squad) Joe Root out, Steven Mullaney/Ian Cockbain in

There has been no confirmation of the status of England Test players. Matthew Potts missed his match, while Zak Crawley played his the next day. If Root is unavailable, one of the two backup right-handers, Mullaney or Cockbain, could fill in.

Venue – Old Trafford, Manchester

There were only two ‘The Hundred Men’ matches at the venue last year, so there’s not much to go on there. However, it is a high scoring ground in the Blast, with the third highest average first innings score (170) in the last three years among all eight 100 venues.

Powerplays are usually high scoring at Old Trafford. And in terms of boundaries, there is one very small square boundary that batters are likely to target heavily. Straight boundaries are also small, though not as small as the smallest square.

At Old Trafford, Manchester (The Blast numbers – Last 3 years)

  • Average first innings score – 170 (3rd)
  • Average 4s 1st inn – 12 (7th)
  • Avg 6s 1st inn – 5 (6th)
  • Avg runs PP 1st inn – 46 (1st)
  • Avg runs in Death 1st inn – 57 (3rd)

Matt Parkinson and Luke Wood have taken the most wickets at the venue since 2017, while Jos Buttler has scored the sixth most runs in the same time period (but his SR is only 130).

Wayne Madsen has a good track record with the bat at the venue, averaging 45 and striking at 153.

Fantasy Notes & Tips

  • Include Richard Gleeson in the starting lineup if he is selected. You need differentials to win daily fantasy, and he is as big as any today.
  • Powerplays here are high scoring, indicating that there isn’t much that can happen with the new ball at the venue, bringing the opening batters into play big time.
  • Phil Salt has a SLAO problem (Samit Patel alert), but he is also the one keeping wickets; therefore, it is not worth the risk to leave him out on the good batting deck.
  • Phil Salt vs SLAO in T20 career (Avg/SR): 14 dismissals (22/134)
  • Phil Salt vs SLAO in 2022 T20s (Avg/SR): 4 dismissals (20/117)
  • It’s strange to see Paul Walter in only 33% of teams, given that in the two matches he’s played, he’s impressed with both the bat and the ball. Don’t make the mistake of underestimating an in-form big hitting pace bowling all-rounder. It almost never ends well.
  • As previously stated, Wayne Madsen, Luke Wood, and Matt Parkinson all have outstanding records at the venue. A quick wicket could bring Madsen into the game, whereas a big score or bowling first is what the bowlers need to get you a couple of wickets each.
  • Daniel Sams has been outstanding with the ball thus far, but it is his overall value – one that hasn’t come into play in the tournament yet – that elevates him to a top fantasy option. We anticipate that this will change today.
  • Tom Kohler-Cadmore is in form and keeps wickets, which is usually appealing; however, the issue here is that if Joe Root is in the XI, Cadmore is likely to bat only at 5 or even lower at times as he could be demoted for more experienced lower middle order hitters in Lewis Gregory and Daniel Sams.
  • If Joe Root doesn’t make the XI, pick Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
