CoD League 2023

The 2022 Call of Duty League ended with Los Angeles Thieves bagging the championship title. The League organizers, Activision have already announced guidelines for the 2023 league and the official commencement dates.

The 2022 league year ends on 21st August at 11:59 PM (Pacific time). The 2023 league year officially commences on 12:00 AM (Pacific time).

In the new league year, CDL agents can be a part of the rosters of existing teams on a contractual basis. The teams can coordinate with organizers to explore trade opportunities for the new season.

The new guidelines allow teams to consider contract criteria with players ahead of the league year, but “may not enter into any formal agreements or make binding commitments to do so outside the permitted windows.”

Long-term contracts will have a minimum term of one year that can be extended to a maximum term of three years.

The league is required to pay every player the least remuneration amount of  $55,225 USD, along with provisions for retirement and healthcare benefits. Each team must give out a minimum of 50% of their total earnings to the players.

Players with non-guaranteed contracts will be paid the buy-out amount in case of termination of contracts. The guidelines state, “if there are at least 60 days remaining in the term, the minimum buyout fee would equal 60 days’ salary plus any earned but unpaid bonuses and prize money.”

The league has separate contractual guidelines for players participating in the CDL as well as the Challengers. Additionally, the guidelines for 14 days contracts state that a team has to sign a player for the entire season if they sign them for two 14-day contracts.

Although there’s no limitation on the number of two-way players in the League, there can only be two two-way players playing in a Challenger team.

The guidelines have also put emphasis on the expansion of the greater COD ecosystem outside the league. The aim is, “to incentivize investment by team owners in player development within the competitive Call of Duty ecosystem outside of the league.”

Although there has been no official announcement regarding the date of commencement of the League, according to the whispers on the internet, it may begin sooner than it had in the last three seasons.
