Fantasy Angles and Notes

  • In the last edition of The Hundred, the home teams won 69% of their matches. The home team for this match is the Manchester Originals.
  • The average score at this venue in the Blast is 178, indicating that batters will have a good time here.
  • Adil Rashid took the most wickets for the Superchargers in the previous edition of The Hundred, with 12. Given the large boundaries at the venue and the bit of assistance that is always expected for spin at Old Trafford, he is a must-pick in this match.
  • Last month, Richard Gleeson made his England T20I debut, taking 3 wickets against India. His pace and experience will also be needed by the Originals to pick up wickets both in the powerplay and at the death. He took 11 wickets in the powerplay and 14 wickets at the death in the Blast. Similarly, Wahab Riaz is an important Superchargers pick. In the one match he played last season, he took 4 wickets, 3 of which came at the death.
  • Adam Lyth had a bad tournament last season, so he’ll be motivated to replicate his explosive performances at The Blast in The Hundred this year.
  • Jos Buttler and Phil Salt are likely to be followed at No. 3 by the in-form Wayne Madsen, who struck at 165 while scoring nearly 500 runs for Derbyshire.
  • Matt Parkinson and Tom Hartley, two of the Originals and Lancashire’s key spinners, are picked up in less than 15% of the teams. It would be a huge mistake not to consider them for our teams at a venue where they have had significant success. Parkinson, in particular, is our super differential.
  • Callum Parkinson, Matt Parkinson’s brother, only played twice for the Superchargers last season and took 3 wickets. He will most likely be used as a second spinner alongside Rashid this year. He had 20 scalps in the Blast this year but is still only picked in 5% of the teams.
  • David Willey, who was used as a floater in the team last season, is expected to bat at No. 5 in this match. Since 2020, he has 44 wickets in 35 T20 matches and 524 runs at a strike rate of 137. He’s a solid alternative for captaincy and our super pick of the match.
  • There are some players that are less popular and ignored. We must atleast have a little idea about them while creating our teams, given the uncertainties at the start of a new season:(Useful in GL)
  1. James Simpson – Keeper, bats in the lower order. Strike rate of 165 in The Blast and also scored 71*(28) the last time these two sides faced each other.
  2. Adam Hose – One of the top run scorers in The Blast 2022 with 557 runs at 161 SR. He will bat at No.4 for Superchargers. Selected by only 5%.
  3. Michael Pepper – Breakout blast season. 70% of his 439 runs were boundaries, can be handy in the middle order (if in the lineup) at The Hundred. Squad replacement for Luke Wright.
  4. Paul Walter – Squad replacement for Jamie Overton. Key player for Essex. Given their respective recent form, he can start this match for the Originals over Tom Lammonby and will be the only left hander in the lineup.
  • According to Cricinfo, Wanindu Hasaranga will not play in the Hundred this season after the Sri Lankan Cricket Board denied him a NOC. He is still chosen in more than 90% of the teams. Tristan Stubbs, a South African youngster, will take his place for the remainder of the season. Stubbs will join the team following the Ireland series. As a result, neither of these players is included in our predicted lineups.
