Fantasy Angles and Notes

  • In the last edition of The Hundred, the home teams won 69% of their matches. The home team for this match is the Oval Invincibles.
  • This pitch is generally batter-friendly and more favourable to the chasing team. Surrey won all of their home T20 Blast matches, and this Invincibles team is dominated by Surrey players. The highest first innings score in the previous edition was 148, and 68 wickets were taken in the five matches played here. This leads us to prefer all-rounders and bowlers over batters if we had to choose between them.
  • In a format with only 100 balls, the batters generally will look to score runs quickly. Therefore, batters with high strike rates are very valuable and can be promoted.
  • Ben McDermott was James Vince’s opening partner at Hampshire, and he helped the team win The Blast. He scored more than half of his runs while chasing, smacking 170 runs at a strike rate of 193 in four matches. He is a must-have in your team for this match, and one of the easiest captaincy picks when chasing.
  • Glenn Maxwell is a welcome addition to a team that finished last in the league the previous year. In the IPL, he struck at a rate of 170 and will look to make an impact at No.3 in the five games he is available to play. Given that the Invincibles are likely to float up their two left-handed big hitters, it appears likely that he will also be called upon to bowl for an over or two in this game.
  • Sunil Narine was used as a floater in the team last season and also had at least five balls reserved to bowl at the death. In the Blast, he batted at No.5 for Surrey scoring 2 fifties and taking 14 wickets. He’ll be key in limiting runs scored and picking up crucial wickets in the middle overs at a venue he’s grown accustomed to.
  • Brad Wheal has gone unnoticed and is only on 6% of teams. He has consistently been in the wickets in both the Blast and the most recent edition of The Hundred, taking 9 wickets in just three matches. Along with Sam Curran, he is our top differential pick for this match.
  • Jacks is selected in only 23% of the teams, competing for two spots with five other quality all-rounders. He has also taken all 9 of his wickets in the first innings at this venue.
  • Only 24% of managers currently have Sam Curran in their lineup, but that figure is expected to rise to at least 50 percent after the toss. Following his injury, he has recently returned to form. In Rilee Rossouw’s absence, he could be promoted to the top order in this match, and given his ability to pick up wickets with the ball, we’ve made him our super pick as well as a super differential in our teams.
  • With Narine and Maxwell already filling two AR spots, we must choose between Curran and Jacks while sacrificing Billings in the keeper section, or choose only one of the two while keeping Billings on the team. When we finalise our teams, that will be a difficult decision for us to make.
  • According to Cricinfo, Kieron Pollard is less likely to start the London Spirit competition because he is recovering from a hamstring injury, so he is currently left out of our predicted starting XI. Even if he is selected, he lacks form, having struggled in both the IPL and the Blast this year.
