Fantasy Angles and Notes

  • This venue has large square boundaries that can help spinners, but it has generally been a good ground for batters and pacers. All four matches in the previous edition of The Hundred were won batting second. The team batting first won 5 of the 7 matches in the recent Vitality Blast. The average T20 score at this venue is 165.
  • The home teams won 69% of their matches in the previous edition of The Hundred. The Southern Brave are the home team for this match.
  • In a format with only 100 balls, batters will generally have a lower batting average and will look to score runs quickly. High strike rate batters are very valuable and can be promoted.
  • Jake Lintott will enjoy bowling at this venue, as he did last season, when he took 2, 1, 2, 3 wickets in four games while bowling in the first innings.
  • Ben Duckett finished second in the run scorers list in the most recent edition of The Hundred, and he also had a good Vitality Blast 2022.
  • Joe Clarke will open the innings for the Welsh Fire, but he is only picked in 14% of the teams. That makes him one of the best differentials in the game.
  • There’s a good chance James Fuller will start ahead of George Garton. While Garton was an important player for The Brave last season, picking up 10 wickets, he has not been in the same form this season at The Blast. He has only taken one wicket in eight matches and averages 189 runs per wicket with an economy of around 12 RPO. Cricinfo and The Cricketer report that he has some recurring health issues that may limit the number of matches he plays.
  • James Fuller had an outstanding season for Vitality Blast champions Hampshire. He’ll play under the same captain and in a familiar venue. We’ll have to wait and see how the Brave employ him in The Hundred.
  • When bowling, Adam Zampa and Rehan Ahmed (if he plays) will look to take advantage of the longer boundaries. Spinners are more likely to get a 10 ball over, which provides an additional opportunity to dismiss a batter under pressure, particularly in the second innings.
  • James Vince is a man in form and our pick for the game. The experienced right-hander has recently won some major domestic trophies, including the Big Bash (twice), The Hundred last year, and the Vitality Blast. He also has ample batting experience at the Rose Bowl. He’ll try to play the role of an anchor in a team full of attacking players and power hitters, allowing him to accumulate points and become a valuable player in our fantasy teams.
