A new schedule has been announced by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the 19th Asian Games. It will be held between September 23 to October 8, 2023, in the city of Hangzhou, China. The 19th Asian games were scheduled to start on September 10, 2022, but the dates had to be revised due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports from the task force appointed by the Executive Body were considered in order to determine the new dates.
In order to prepare the report, the Task Force had to consult with the Chinese Olympic Committee, Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) among other stakeholders to come up with a new schedule that would not clash with other sporting events. The final dates suggested by the Task Force were accepted by the EB.
The 19th Asian Games is a major attraction for esports enthusiasts all over the world, as the category will make its debut in the 2023 event. Three medals- gold, silver, and bronze, will be awarded to the top three contestants in the eight games to be included in the Asian Games. The list of games consists of- FIFA, an Asian Games version of PUBG Mobile and Arena of Valor, Street Fighter V, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Dota 2, HearthStone, and League of Legends.
The OCA expressed its gratitude to the Chinese Government, Olympic Committee, and the HAGOC for coordinating with them during the pandemic and ensuring the event takes place in the following year. Besides the OCA also recognized the cooperation of the National Olympic Committees and International Federation/Asian Federations in the planning process. On the 19th of July, the OCA released an official statement declaring the new dates for the Asian Games.
