Fantasy Angles and Notes

  • This match pits two sides with vastly different levels of quality. England have been attempting to perfect their team for the shortest format by bringing in a slew of proven youngsters to supplement the mix of experienced world-class players already on the team. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had to take the longer route to the tournament by competing in qualifiers and winning a spot.
  • We would like to keep things simple and include Nat Sciver, Sophia Dunkley, Chamari Athapaththu, Sophie Ecclestone, and Katherine Brunt in our fantasy teams as must-have players in all scenarios.
  • If Katherine Brunt manages to take the prized wicket of Chamari Athapaththu in the early overs of the match, she can wreak havoc for Sri Lanka. This will almost certainly result in a collapse of Sri Lankan batting in English conditions.
  • The only reliable bowlers in this Sri Lankan team are Oshadi Ranasinghe and Inoka Ranaweera. If we had to choose between the two in our fantasy teams, we would go with Ranasinghe because she can also bat.
  • Alice Capsey is our favourite Grand League pick – After an impressive performance in the final T20I against South Africa, Alice Capsey will most likely start the tournament ahead of Bryony Smith and bat at No.3. She is selected in only 6% of fantasy teams, and this may not be the case throughout the tournament. She also took more than ten wickets in The Hundred competition. We will also consider her for our Small and Mega Leagues, especially against a team like Sri Lanka.
  • Nat Sciver and Chamari Athapaththu are popular choices for captain and vice captain, respectively, in this match. We would never recommend dropping them in our small leagues, but c/vc for Athapaththu is risky, especially if she bats first. In T20Is, she also has a poor record against England.
  • Danielle Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley are excellent options for captaincy or vice captaincy against Sri Lanka, as we expect at least one of them to dominate the Sri Lankan bowling.
  • Kate Cross and Issy Wong had a good time bowling at The Hundred. Cross did not play in the T20I series against South Africa, but she did play in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match, where she took two wickets and scored 38 runs. Wong, on the other hand, has made her England debut in all three formats in the last 30 days.
