Dinesh Karthik on Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid

Speaking to teammate Ravichandran Ashwin after a match-winning 19-ball 41* that earned him the Player of the Match award against West Indies in the first T20I, Dinesh Karthik praised the current captain and coach combination of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for keeping the dressing room calm and treating failures rationally.

Dinesh Karthik said: “I think this is a very, very different team. I must admit that I am really enjoying this setup. The kind of calmness that seems to be around this setup in terms of both coach and captain, I think a lot of credit must go to both of them. Because they have set up an an atmosphere where they are dealing with failures in the most rational way possible.

“They are also bringing on board people who can help players try and be themselves. I think that was something that could have been missing before. At times when I didn’t do well, I still felt I was treated the same way (by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma). This dressing room atmosphere was calm and good.”

The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter was inexplicably dropped by the previous team management in the run-up to the 2020 T20 World Cup, despite being one of the team’s best batters since his comeback in 2017 and, in general, one of the world’s best lower middle order batters.
