Fantasy Angles and Notes

  • Unlike the Bristol pitch, the Cardiff pitch provides an opportunity for bowlers to shine, with an average score of 142 in the first innings. Both spinners and pacers will receive a lot of assistance, so make sure your teams have a good mix of both.
  • We will build our fantasy teams around five key players: Quinton de Kock, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Moeen Ali and Lungi Ngidi.
  • If their respective teams bowl first, Dwaine Pretorius (if he plays) and Chris Jordan are automatic additions to the above list. Jordan has 51 wickets in 44 T20Is bowling in the first innings, while Pretorius has 19 wickets in 13 innings.
  • “Jos Buttler and Jason Roy are both out of form!” That is correct, but Buttler opens the batting, provides wicket-keeping points and has scored 124 runs in four T20Is at this venue. Interestingly, Roy and Buttler are the top two batters in ODIs at Cardiff, with Roy scoring over 400 runs in 5 matches at an average of 81 and Buttler scoring over 371 runs in 8 matches at an average of 74.
  • Rilee Rossouw as a captain in the Grand League? A fascinating pick in our grand league and an interesting option to consider in your other leagues as well. He came into this series after finishing second in the Vitality Blast batting rankings. In addition, he scored 466 runs in eleven innings of chasing in the Blast, at a remarkable average of 58 and a staggering strike rate of 189. If van der Dussen replaces him, we will also hand over command to van der Dussen.
  • Quinton de Kock struggled in the previous game, but we expect him to return to his usual routine of racking up massive runs at the top and leading his team to victory.
  • This is also a venue that has historically favoured the chasing team, so it will not be surprising if at least two of the chasing team’s top four batters end up helping the team win.
