India will play in the FIFAe Nations Cup 2022 on July 27. This will be the first time that India will take part in the tournament which is similar in stature to the FIFA World Cup in esports. The Indian team consists of three players- Saransh Jain, Charanjot Singh, and Siddh Chandrana. The football-loving nation has three top-ranked players who will be coached by another FIFA esports maestro Lokmanyu Chaturvedi.
Saransh Jain holds the top rank as an Indian in the South Asia game rankings and he won the Asian Football Gaming Championship (AFGC) at age 16. Charanjot Singh is a hardcore Chelsea fan who has a winning rate of 41.67 percent while representing India in the FIFA esports. Siddh Chandrana is the only player among the three who had an international stint when he played for Mesut Ozil’s esports team M10 Esports. All in all, the Indian team has a solid roster who are up for any challenge.
Details of the tournament
In order to qualify, India competed in the play-ins across four Match Weeks, winning 12, losing 11, and drawing nine games. For the entire four-match weeks, India stayed in Division 1. India moved closer to the FIFAe Nations Cup in 2022 by placing second in the consistency points table and earning a spot in the Playoffs. During this time, India attained its highest global ranking of 18th position. As seen by the introduction of the eISL in the most recent Indian Super League, esports in India is poised to grow. Speaking to AIFF, former Chennaiyin FC eISL player Saransh Jain remarked, “It has been a great experience to represent the Indian national team. I’ve known both Charanjot and Siddh for almost 5 years now. We’re great friends even off the field and gel a lot which helps our coordination as well.”
The team has been drawn in Group D. India will begin the tournament against Italy, followed by matches against the Netherlands, Poland, Mexico, and Morocco. The return fixtures of all the matches will take place the next day. The final of FIFAe Nations Cup is scheduled to take place on July 30.
