Wicketkeepers – Fantasy Angles and Stats:

Kusal Mendis:

At Pallekele International Cricket Stadium: 227 runs in 11 innings at 21/78

It is quite clear that Mendis doesn’t have a great record at Pallekele, but sometimes in fantasy, all that matters is who bats higher up the order. And his alternative, Alex Carey, could bat as low as No.7 for Australia. No.7 is no good.

Batters – Fantasy Angles and Stats:

David Warner: Warner scored a hundred when he last played at Pallekele back in 2016. The left-hander has been in fine form since the T20 WC last year and with Pallekele usually being a high-scoring ground, expect him to come good in this fixture. Top C/VC choice.

Aaron Finch: The Australia captain managed 114 runs in 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka, and his good run is likely to continue in this game as well. Expect a score in the range of 30-50 from the right-hander.

Charith Asalanka:

At Pallekele International Cricket Stadium: 146 runs in 3 games at 49/100

One of Sri Lanka’s most impressive batters since his debut, Charith Asalanka has five 50+ scores in 11 games in his ODI career. The left-hander also has form on his side, coming into this game after being Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer in the T20I series with 104 runs in 3 games.

Allrounders – Fantasy Angles and Stats:

Wanindu Hasaranga: Hasaranga, high on confidence after a stellar IPL season, has 10 wickets in 18 T20I overs against Australia this year. And he is also quite capable with the bat. So it would be silly to get into this game without him in your XI. Also, one of the best C/VC choices if Sri Lanka bat first.

Glenn Maxwell: Sri Lanka have 3 left-handers in the top 5, and in the absence of Adam Zampa, Maxwell is Australia’s second spinner. Combine that with his batting ability, and that’s enough reason for you to have him in your XI.

He will have to be watchful against Hasaranga, though.

vs Wanindu Hasaranga in T20Is: 4 dismissals in 28 balls at 11.5/165

Bowlers – Fantasy Angles and Stats:

Josh Hazlewood: Hazlewood has a strike rate of 32 in ODIs and has been a nightmare for Sri Lanka in 2022, with 18 wickets in 6 T20Is. That’s a combination of form and class—one of the top C/VC choices in the game.

Pat Cummins: Pat Cummins is playing an ODI game for the first time since 2020. He might not have had a great IPL, but we back him to come good against a batting lineup that struggles against pace and hard lengths.

Maheesh Theekshana:

At Pallekele International Cricket Stadium: 26-1-99-2

Thakshana has struggled to pick wickets at Pallekele despite playing all 3 games against a team as mediocre as Zimbabwe, which shows how little support the venue provides for spin bowlers.

If Sri Lanka bowl first, leaving the 21-year-old out for some Sri Lankan bowler like Dushmantha Chameera, who has a low selection % and will bowl at the death, can work wonders.

Predicted Playing XI:

Australia: Aaron Finch(c), David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey(wk), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka: Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(wk), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana
